Sacred Heart College Middle School has a proud reputation with the participation of the College’s students in a variety of CEAs. Whether sporting, academia or music-based, CEAs are a great opportunity for teachers, parents and carers to form partnerships. They also reinforce a sense of connectedness to the College which can become a positive influence on some of the choices that these young men make as they proceed through their school life and beyond.
We strongly encourage participation in any of the
CEAs we offer.

Over the course of a year, the College will have approximately 70 teams participating. It is a condition of enrolment at the College that participation in a school CEA takes priority over a competing interest.

The encouragement to participate in a CEA at the Middle School is strong and the benefits are many.

SHCMS recognises the importance of participation in team activities for the wellbeing of boys in their middle years. Therefore, all boys are strongly encouraged to be actively involved in the school’s wider sports program, music opportunities and other areas of participation. Coaching, practice and team selection focuses on participation, skill development, sportsmanship and enjoyment in preference to winning or elitism.

As we have less than 40 teaching staff, the role of the teacher is often to conduct mid week training, coordinate teams and facilitate and encourage competition and consequently, most teams will require a strong parent/carer involvement in coaching, managing, scoring and general encouragement in competition. In the past this involvement has been outstanding and has made a genuine contribution to the sense of community at SHCMS as well as developing relationships between staff, students and parents. Please consider how you might be able to help when completing the CEA Nomination Form and Parent/Carer Volunteer Nomination Form.

Representative CEAs
At SHCMS we would like our boys to fulfil their potential by competing in a variety of CEAs while representing their school. One of the ways we do this is by promoting the South Australian Primary Schools Amateur Sports Association (SAPSASA) and Secondary School Sports South Australia (SSSSA) events. The Middle School pays an affiliation fee to the organisations and is able, in return, to participate in a wide variety of sporting events which we are often not able to offer in our regular sporting program.

SHCMS regularly enters teams in these competitions in sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, cricket, baseball, softball, football, swimming and tennis. Selection is carried out by the teacher coordinator for the sport, based on performance in the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) competitions.

Students also have an opportunity to enter themselves into individual events such as Mountain Biking and Golf, or might decide to trial for representative teams as a part of the City South region. Information for such events will be distributed by the CEA Coordinator as the due date for nominations approaches. Students must play for SHCMS in their CEA program to be considered for selection in SAPSASA/SSSSA and music performance tours/events during school hours.

Absentee Line

We seek to immerse ourselves in the lives of the young. Our instinct is to engage the world of the young by going out to meet them in their own space and through their own culture. We create opportunities to become involved in their loves, and welcome them into ours. In school ministry, we seek to extend our presence through free-time, leisure, sports and cultural activities, or whatever means offer themselves.
